As the present owner of Johnson's Automotive Service, I want everyone to see the level of professionalism we strive to maintain.
Roy and his brother, Willard Johnson, had a small building in Toledo, Illinois they called Johnson's Garage. Steve, Roy's son, tinkered and started his walk down the auto repair path there.
Steve graduated from Southern Illinois University and then worked for several auto dealerships as a line mechanic until 1969 when he took a teaching position with Lake Land College in the automotive technology department. In 1977 he decided to fulfill his dream and establish his own shop. He bought the original garage building, and after some renovation, Johnson's Automotive Service was born at 8th and Madison Avenue, today's location. That was the location of my introduction to the automotive service. I'm David Johnson, the current owner and operator. I helped my dad by working late nights installing a ground hoist and cleaning up the shop. Additional lots and another building were acquired and Johnson's Automotive expanded in size. While I attended Eastern Illinois University, my father asked me to fill the position of service manager. Within two years, I relieved Steve of his customer relations responsibilities which enabled him to concentrate on the technical aspects of the job. Then, in 1998 we added 1000 more square feet of shop space.
Improvements to the office area and customer waiting room have now been completed, offering space and comfort for customers who opt to wait for automotive repairs.
As the present owner of Johnson's Automotive Service, I want everyone to see the level of professionalism we strive to maintain. For many years Johnson's Automotive Service has continued to move forward in our industry, but we've never forgotten how we got here. And remember, "service is a part of our name."
I have owned and operated Johnson's Automotive Service for over 20 years, and take great pride in serving each and every customer who comes through our doors. Let us know how we can help you.
Chris grew up in Blue Island, IL. Blue Island calls itself a south side suburb of Chicago, but people in the city say Blue Island might as well be Kankakee. Even though he's a far south-sider he is still a die hard, stat following Cubs fan. Lord help him, I watch him cry every July. Chris came to JAS in 2004, his first job was managing our detail department. Once I saw how well he interacted with customers I brought him into the service department. Chris builds a relationship with each person on the other side of the counter. He is a very devoted family man and treats every car issue like his family would be driving in it. After 6 years he has become my “right hand man”. Your faith and trust could not be better founded anywhere than in Chris.
Sam grew up in Altamont, IL. I've got other friends from Altamont. I still haven't figured that town out. After high school Sam joined the army. Soon after that, he did something I only can admire, he went to war for the country we are fortunate enough to live in. He did two tours in Iraq. After returning he earned an associates degree in Automotive Technology. Sam joined the JAS team in June of 2010 and has quickly earned his stripes. His dedication to the industry and our customers is excellent.
